Crossing the Alps
The first day is deliberately kept short, at just under 5 hours of actual driving.
At Reschensee, the short walk to the submerged church tower is well worth it.
This is where your trip begins. With a full tank and full water tanks, you head south across the Alps.
A short stop at the brilliant turquoise Fernsteinsee near Nassereith. Lovely views over the water and a welcome chance for the kids to stretch their legs before continuing into the Inn Valley.

Arrival at the lake
Arrival at the lake is timed early enough for a first swim.
Total driving time around 3.5 hours.
A stroll through the Mediterranean-feeling spa town, with its arcaded streets and promenade along the Passer. A good opportunity for an ice cream and a short leg-stretch. Campervans are best parked on designated areas on the edge of town.
A compact site right on the northern shore with lake access and mountain views. Torbole is quieter than the southern side, ideal for swimming and your first few days in the water. In the evening, the wind turns the beach into a great spot for watching sailors.

Water and play
A pure rest day with no long drives.
A whole day for swimming, playing and lazing about on the pebble beach. The gently shelving water is well suited to children, and the colourful sailing boats on the lake come free of charge.
Riva's pretty old town, with its harbour promenade and medieval tower, is perfect for a wander and an ice cream. Either drive there briefly in the campervan or take the lakeside cycle path.
Waterfall and nature
Short drives, plenty of water and relaxation.
A thundering waterfall in a narrow rocky gorge, with walkways and galleries making it easy to explore. Spectacular, and a real adventure for children — pleasantly cool even in the heat.
Back to the water for swimming and playing. If you fancy it, hire a pedal boat or a SUP. A relaxed family afternoon right at the site.
Up into the heights
Take the cable car early, as it's less crowded up top in the morning.
Return to the campsite in the late afternoon.
The rotating cabin whisks you from Malcesine almost 1,800 metres up in just a few minutes. Up top there are sweeping views over the lake and easy walking paths across alpine meadows — perfect for a short family walk.

Winding lanes, the harbour and the Scaligero Castle make Malcesine one of the loveliest spots on the lake. It's best to leave the campervan at the guarded car park above the town.
Heading into the mountains
Driving time around 2.5 hours, plenty of time to settle in.
South Tyrol's regional capital, with its arcaded streets and fruit market, makes a pleasant stopover. Curious visitors will enjoy the archaeology museum with Ötzi the Iceman.
A very well-kept mountain campsite with a stunning view of the Schlern and a heated pool. The ideal base for easy walks and cable car rides around the Seiser Alm. Peaceful and family-friendly.

Alpine meadows and views
Choose a gentle circular walk — there are plenty of child-friendly paths up top.
Pack sun protection and a jacket, as mountain weather can change quickly.
The cable car takes you up to Europe's largest high-altitude alpine meadow. Up top, wide, almost level meadow paths await, with views of the Schlern and Langkofel — perfect for an easy family walk with a stop at a mountain hut.

A short leg, with the afternoon free to settle in and play.
A well-known mountain village framed by the towers of the Sella group. A great base for walks, with small shops and cafés inviting you to browse.

Rock and water
Cable car in the morning, relaxation in the afternoon.
The cable car from Wolkenstein takes you up to the Grödnerjoch, with a fantastic view of the Sella group. Up top there are easy alpine paths and a good spot for a bite to eat, ideal for the whole family.
Back at the site there's time to play, relax and take a stroll in the surrounding area. The clear mountain air is a treat after the last few active days.
Turquoise mountain lake
Get to Lago di Braies early, then head down into the valley at a leisurely pace.
One of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Dolomites, with brilliant turquoise water framed by steep rock faces. The level circular path is easy to manage with children, and rowing boats can be hired. Campervans should arrive early, as access is regulated in summer.
A well-kept family campsite in the Hochpustertal, with a pool and plenty of walking paths right outside. A peaceful location between Toblach and the nature park, and a good base for the nearby Tre Cime.

Mountains and swimming
An easy day with swimming and a short walk.
Enjoy your last night in the Dolomites.
An idyllic moorland lake with a level circular path, easy to walk with children. Clear water, walkways and a small nature trail make for a varied morning.
Along the toll road into the Höhlensteintal, with views of the famous Tre Cime. Rather than the full hut circuit, a short, easy walk with a view is enough for children. A peaceful mountain afternoon.
The way back over the mountains
Driving time around 2.5 to 3 hours, with the afternoon free at the lake.
Tyrol's oldest city, with its cathedral, arcades and cosy squares. A pleasant stop for lunch and a leg-stretch.
A very popular campsite on a clear swimming lake south of Innsbruck. Lovely lake access, plenty of room to play, and a perfect last day for swimming before heading home.
