Stage towards Liguria
Deliberately shorter stages before the ferry, so you arrive in Livorno rested and on time.
From here today's stage begins, heading along the Italian lakes towards the coast.

Crossing to Corsica
For seasickness: eat something light beforehand, keep your eyes on the horizon, and choose a seat near the middle of the ship.
From Biguglia it's just a few minutes back to Bastia for a stroll.
The ferry to Bastia departs from Livorno Ferry Port. Allow for check-in one to two hours before departure, with motorhomes boarding separately. On the crossing there are outer decks where the kids can get some fresh air.

First day on the island, taking it easy
A deliberately quiet day after the crossing, with plenty of time on the beach.
The old harbour of Bastia, with its tall, colourful houses, fishing boats and small cafés, is perfect for a relaxed stroll. The bustle by the water is exciting for the kids, and the citadel above offers a lovely view. With a motorhome, it's best to park on the edge of town and walk in.
Coastal road and secluded bays
The Cap Corse loop road is narrow and winding — allow plenty of time and stop for photos.
The spectacular black pebble beach of Nonza lies beneath the village clinging to the rock face, with its tower. The descent down many steps is a small adventure for the kids, and a great view over the bay awaits at the top. Take the winding Cap Corse road calmly in the motorhome and allow enough time.

Drive to the red rocky coast
Driving time is fairly tight, but you'll then stay several nights in the Balagne.
Setting off across the north towards the Balagne region.
This lively little town, with its red rocky island and large covered market, makes a pleasant stop. The town beach lies right by the centre, and a walk out to the Île de la Pietra peninsula is well worth it. Park the motorhome in one of the outer car parks and walk in.

Beach and short walk
Half excursion, half beach day, with no long drives at all.
You stay put — a relaxed day in the Balagne.
The lovingly restored artists' village of Pigna, with narrow cobbled lanes, workshops and views over the Balagne to the sea. A short, child-friendly stroll full of discoveries, such as handmade instruments and ceramics. The motorhome stays in the car park on the edge of the village.
Calanche and the Gulf of Porto
A day of spectacular scenery but a demanding drive. Set off early and take plenty of breaks.

The Gulf of Porto, with its Genoese tower and red rocks, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. A short walk to the tower rewards you with sweeping views over the bay. The nearby Calanche de Piana, with its bizarre red rock formations, is one of the island's highlights.

Short walk through the red rocks
Walk in the morning while it's cooler, swim in the afternoon.
The short, well-marked Sentier du Château Fort leads through fiery red, wildly shaped granite rocks with wonderful views. The walk takes about an hour and is easily manageable for children too. Park at one of the bays along the road — level ground, no height restrictions.
A small, sheltered bay below Piana with clear water, framed by red rocks. The path down is steep, but swimming here is especially lovely. Only reachable by car, and the car park above is limited, so arrive early.
Gulf of Valinco
A more demanding stage, but you'll then stay longer in the south.
A small harbour town on the Gulf of Valinco, with a peaceful waterfront promenade and several beaches nearby. A good base for exploring bays and short trips into the south of the island. The sea here is sheltered and shallow, ideal for the kids.

Walk to the Genoese tower
A short coastal walk of about an hour, ideal with a swimming break.
Excursion to the bay of Campomoro.
From the beach at Campomoro, a short, easy coastal path leads to Corsica's largest Genoese tower, standing above the bay. Along the way there's clear water, small bays and sea views. A lovely half-day outing with swimming and walking for the whole family.
White cliffs and old town
Visit Bonifacio in the morning, swim or relax in the afternoon.
Drive to the southern tip of the island.
The old town, perched spectacularly on white limestone cliffs above the sea, is one of Corsica's landmarks. A stroll through the lanes of the Haute Ville and a look down from the cliff at the turquoise water below are unforgettable. Park the motorhome in the designated car park above — avoid underground car parks.

Drive to the famous east coast beaches.
One of Corsica's most beautiful beaches, with fine sand, red rocks and pine trees, backed by shallow turquoise water. In October it's noticeably quieter here than in summer, ideal for swimming and building sandcastles. A perfect family beach with clear, warm water.

Farewell to Corsica
Check ferry times so you don't arrive too late in Ameglia.
A daytime crossing is preferable, more pleasant with children.

Drive along the east coast back to Bastia.
From Bastia you cross by ferry back to Livorno. Again, arrive in good time for check-in, as motorhomes board separately. One last look back at the island from the deck.
