Arrival with a stopover
The drive is above the daily allowance, so today it's just about arriving, setting up and swimming.
Leave the trailer at the pitch after setting up, you won't need it for the next few days.
This is where your trip begins. Loaded up with bikes on the trailer, you'll head south towards Lake Constance.

Arrive and swim
A relaxed settling-in day with no long drive.
If you'd rather cycle: a signposted route leads from the site down to Lindau.
The old town island with its harbour entrance, lion statue and lighthouse is easy to explore on foot. The fishing boats and the bustle at the harbour are exciting for children. Drive there with the unloaded camper to the car park on the mainland, as the island itself is best reached on foot or by bike.
Spacious lido on the eastern shore of Lindau with lawns for sunbathing, a diving tower and a shallow entry into the water. Perfect for a long afternoon of swimming with a seven-year-old water enthusiast. There's a playground and a kiosk right on the shore.
First cycling day
A pure cycling day, the camper and trailer stay put.
Around 28 kilometres a day is very manageable for a seven-year-old on flat terrain, so plan in some breaks.
The lakeside cycle path from Lindau to Bregenz is flat, well maintained and almost entirely traffic-free. A family-friendly route of around 10 kilometres each way, with plenty of swimming spots along the way. Ideal for the first proper cycling day with a seven-year-old.
A large lido in Bregenz with swimming pools, slides and shallow lake access. From here you have a view of the Seebühne floating stage and the Pfänder mountain. A good turning and swimming point on your cycling route.
Changing base and the Bodanrück peninsula
A moving day, but the drive stays well under three hours.
In Meersburg, take a car park on the edge of town for the old town, don't try to manoeuvre the trailer through narrow lanes.
A picturesque little town with the oldest inhabited castle in Germany, high above the lake. The old town is narrow and car-free, so leave the camper at one of the ground-level car parks on the edge of town. For children, the castle with its knights' hall, dungeon and suits of armour is a real experience.

A quiet nature campsite on the Bodanrück peninsula with direct access to the Überlinger See. From here you can easily reach Konstanz, Reichenau and the ferry to Meersburg. The site has generous grassy pitches where the trailer can be parked without any trouble.

Island and water
A relaxed island and swimming day, the trailer stays put.
Reichenau can be explored almost entirely on flat cycle paths.
The UNESCO World Heritage island of Reichenau is reached via a causeway and is flat, ideal for a leisurely cycle ride between vegetable fields and old monastery churches. Swimming spots and views of the lake are a draw for children. Bring the bikes by camper or cycle from the site, depending on stamina.

Nature and butterflies
Little driving, plenty of time on the island.
If you'd rather cycle: the route to Mainau can also easily be covered by bike.
The flower island of Mainau is a large park with a butterfly house, petting zoo, water playground and wide lawns where children can run around. For a seven-year-old, the Kinderland with its farm and play equipment is a particular highlight. A whole day can easily slip by here.

Leg heading north
A moving day, the drive stays under three hours.
That leaves just a short final leg to Nuremberg for the last day.
Ulm, with the tallest church tower in the world and its winding fishermen's quarter, makes a good stopover on the way home. A short stroll through town by the Donau breaks up the drive. Leave the camper at a ground-level car park on the edge of town, no underground car parks due to its height.
A campsite right on the Donau, just a few minutes from the old town. A handy stopover for splitting the return drive to Nuremberg into two legs. In the evening, you can take a stroll along the river.

Journey home
A short drive home, comfortably under the daily allowance.
Plan a timely break halfway there, and you'll be home by early afternoon.
Return to the starting point. This is where your round trip around Lake Constance comes to an end.
