Marine reserve and coves
A full day at the same campsite, no need to move on.
Renting or bringing your own snorkelling gear saves money compared with guided tours.
A small island archipelago off L'Estartit and one of the best snorkelling and diving spots in the western Mediterranean. From the beach or on a cheap glass-bottomed boat, you'll see shoals of fish, starfish and clear water. Ideal for teenagers with mask and snorkel.

A long sandy beach with a shallow entry and views of the Medes Islands. In the evening, the seafront promenade invites you to stroll, get an ice cream and watch the world go by. Plenty going on to keep the teenagers entertained.
Stone villages inland
Head to the villages in the morning, as it gets very hot there by midday.
Afternoon free for the pool and relaxation at the campsite.
A perfectly preserved medieval village of golden sandstone with narrow lanes and a defensive tower. From up top you can look out over rice fields all the way to the sea. Compact enough for a short, cool morning stroll.
A stone village with a moat that seems carved entirely from rock. Small shops, shady squares and ice-cream parlours make the midday heat bearable. A short drive from the previous village.
A new base on the central Costa Brava
Just a short drive, leaving plenty of time to set up and enjoy a first afternoon on the beach.
A family-friendly campsite near the beaches of Sant Antoni de Calonge, with a pool and a short distance to the sea. A good, affordable base for the central Costa Brava around Palamós. From here you can reach many small coves.

A lively harbour town with a fishing tradition, a seafront promenade and evening buzz. The fish market and tapas bars are ideal for a relaxed evening. For teenagers there are shops, ice cream and plenty going on along the promenade.
Camí de Ronda and snorkelling coves
Bring sun protection and water, as the coastal path has little shade.
Car parks at the coves fill up quickly in summer, so arrive early.
A small, rocky cove with clear water, ideal for snorkelling along the rocks. Somewhat hidden, and often quieter than the bigger beaches as a result. Easily reached on foot via the Camí de Ronda coastal path.
A coastal footpath over the rocks between Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc, with views over turquoise coves. Steps lead down to the water at various points for snorkelling. Short, family-friendly sections, though some are narrow and exposed to the sun.
Beach, pool and lazing about
A deliberately drive-free day to relax after several outings.
A long, gently sloping beach right by the campsite, with a promenade and snack bars. A day for swimming, playing ball games and resting between outings. In the evening there's music and activity along the promenade.
A castle above the sea
The coast road is winding, so allow a bit more time for this stretch.
Arriving early in Tossa secures you a parking spot on the edge of town.
A coastal town with a medieval fortification right above the sea, the Vila Vella. The main beach lies framed by the castle, ideal for a swim with a backdrop. Narrow lanes, ice-cream parlours and evening life for teenagers.
A small sheltered cove with a pebble beach and rocks for snorkelling, north of Tossa. Clear water and less hustle than the town beaches. A good stop on the way back to the campsite.
City and culture inland
In Girona, park at ground level on the edge of town and walk into the old town — that's the easiest option.
City in the morning, sea in the afternoon, keeping things varied.
A lively provincial capital with colourful houses along the River Onyar, an imposing cathedral and one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Europe. You can walk along the city walls for wide-reaching views. A filming location for some Game of Thrones scenes, which many teenagers will recognise.

A Gothic cathedral with one of the widest naves in the world, reached via an impressive flight of steps. The visit, including the treasury, is well worth it for the architecture. The climb up gives a great overview of the old town.
The southern Costa Brava
A short move, leaving the afternoon free to explore your new surroundings.
An affordable campsite near Blanes at the southern end of the Costa Brava, with short distances to the beach and the lively town. A good base for the last few days, close to the beach with evening entertainment nearby. A pool and shaded pitches for the roof tent.

Last day at your destination
The trip ends here on the Costa Brava — a return journey to Frankfurt is not part of this plan.
For the drive home later, the same applies as for the outward journey: split the route through France into two stages.
