Swimming and settling in
Have sun cream, a sunshade and water shoes ready for the little one.
Avoid the midday heat, it's better to swim in the morning and late afternoon.
Wide, very gently sloping sandy beach with clean water, awarded the Blue Flag. Perfect for toddlers, as you can wade far out without it getting deep.
Cypresses and villages
No car park needed, use the ground-level parking spaces at the entrance to the village.
Drive in the morning so the afternoon stays free for the beach.
The small, brick-red village at the end of the famous cypress avenue is compact and easy to explore on foot. For children, the shady avenue and the medieval gate are an experience, for parents, an espresso in the piazza.

Nature and wildlife
Set off early in the morning because of the heat.
Bring binoculars to spot the water birds.
A vast wetland with observation trails and the chance to spot flamingos and other water birds. The level paths are easy to manage with a pushchair and are at their best in the summer mornings.
Pure seaside time
Deliberately the last full beach day with no set plans.
Sheltered bay with calm, shallow water and fine sand, ideal for splashing about with a toddler. The surrounding rocks offer shady spots to retreat to.
Heading north in stages
Start this stage early in the morning, so the heat and traffic remain manageable.
Plan several breaks for nappy changes, eating and letting off steam.

The final stage of the journey
The return to Nuremberg can be covered the following day in a short stage.
Recharge once more at the lake before the final leg homeward.
