Dyke cycle path and fishing village
The caravan stays put at the campsite, all routes today are by bike.
The full cycling loop is around 15 to 20 km, manageable for little ones with plenty of breaks.
Plan for a relaxed afternoon back at the site.
The historic fishing village thrives around its harbour for cutters and red-brick lanes. You cycle from the site on flat terrain into the village, watch the shrimp cutters and treat yourselves to a fish roll. The twin mills on the edge of the village make a lovely photo spot.
The dyke at the Leybucht offers wide views over the mudflats and is a haven for birds. The cycle path along the top or side of the dyke is flat and car-free, perfect for the child trailer. Sheep graze on the dyke, while countless coastal birds gather on the mudflats.
Short drive to the coast
After setting up, the afternoon is free for the beach and exploring.
The beach lies right behind the dyke, short distances for the four-year-old.

Water, mudflats and sandcastles
A whole day without driving, everything reachable on foot or by bike.
Mudflat walk only at the right tide and with wellington boots.
The supervised sandy beach with gently sloping water is ideal for young children to paddle and dig. Beach chairs, play areas and the seawater adventure pool right next door make for a relaxed day. At low tide, it's great fun to squelch about at the edge of the mudflats.

Dyke cycle path along the coast
The caravan stays in Bensersiel, you travel entirely by bike.
If there's a headwind, the ride can be shortened, allowing for a longer break in Neuharlingersiel.
One of the loveliest coastal villages in East Frisia, with a lively cutter harbour and thatched-roof houses. The cycle path there runs flat along the dyke, with wide views over the mudflats. At the harbour, there's fresh fish and plenty for the children to see.

A short drive leaves plenty of time for the Museumshafen and the beach.

A family site near the sluice harbour of Harlesiel with direct access to the dyke and lido. The flat cycle paths of the Harlebucht start right at the site. The historic Museumshafen Carolinensiel with its old sailing ships makes a worthwhile nearby destination.

The historic sluice harbour displays original sailing ships and tells the story of life on the coast. The Deutsches Sielhafenmuseum brings seafaring and coastal protection to life, even for children. Pretty old captains' houses line the surroundings.
Farewell beach and a stopover
Morning still by the sea, afternoon a relaxed drive into the Emsland.
A stopover splits the journey home and keeps each day's driving under three hours.
One last morning on the flat North Sea beach with a lido and plenty of room to dig. A perfect way to wind down the coastal holiday before heading south. Afterwards, take down the caravan and set off.
A quiet site by the Speicherbecken Geeste as a stopover on the way back, splitting the journey home into two relaxed legs. The lake invites you for a swim and one last little cycle ride. Flat surroundings, good for children.
