Wadden Sea and sandy beach
A pure beach and relaxation day, no change of location.
One of the widest beaches in Northern Europe - so wide that you have to walk quite a distance from the car park to reach the water. Perfect for flying kites, building sandcastles and hunting for shells. As the tide goes out, shallow pools remain where the little ones can safely splash about.
Lighthouse and bunkers
A short drive, leaving plenty of time for the lighthouse and beach in the afternoon.
A striking lighthouse at Denmark's westernmost point. Climb the stairs and you're rewarded with sweeping views over the dune landscape and the sea. Right on the beach stand the famous concrete bunker sculptures shaped like seals (Mur-Bunker).

Beach day with amber hunting
Beach in the morning, museum in the afternoon - flexible depending on the weather.
A sandy beach stretching for miles with a gentle slope, ideal for young children. After stormy days, amber can often be found washed up along the tideline. Dunes at your back, wide open sea ahead.
An award-winning museum tucked into an old bunker beneath the dunes. It tells the story of the Atlantic Wall and displays a large amber collection, presented in a way children can enjoy. A good option if the weather doesn't cooperate on the beach.

Theme park day
The only longer sightseeing day - after this, plenty more sea awaits.
The motorhome stays at the campsite, so there's no car park hassle.
The original Legoland park, with Miniland, gentle rides and plenty of areas made especially for three- to five-year-olds. Duplo Land and the water playgrounds are perfect for the little ones. Plan for the whole day and arrive early to beat the crowds.

Fjord and wide expanses of water
The drive stays under an hour and a half, leaving a free afternoon at the fjord or on the beach.
A small fishing village on the narrow spit between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord. The lock and harbour are fascinating to watch, and you have water on both sides - the wild sea to one side, the calm fjord to the other. A good spot for fresh fish and an ice cream.

Birds and shallow water
A calm nature day with birds and shallow fjord water.
A flat peninsula in the southern part of Ringkøbing Fjord, one of Denmark's most important bird sanctuaries. From the viewing tower you can spot waders, geese and, in spring, ruffs displaying. Access is restricted at certain times to protect the birds - check the opening times beforehand.
The fjord water is more sheltered from the wind and warmer than the open North Sea, and very shallow too - perfect for young children to splash about in. Kitesurfers make use of the wide expanse, which children enjoy watching.
National park and bunkers
The longest drive of the trip today - but short distances again over the coming days.
Take a longer break along the way to let the children stretch their legs.
The largest bunker complex in Northern Europe from the Second World War, with a huge gun emplacement you can walk through. A small field railway takes visitors around the site, which children enjoy. Inside, exhibitions bring the history to life.

Wild nature
A relaxing day with a beach and a walk through the dunes.
A wide, often deserted beach at Thy National Park. The dunes here are especially impressive, and there's plenty of room to run around. A place where you can really feel the vastness of Jutland.
Shifting dune and lighthouse
A slightly longer drive, followed by two calm days in the north.
The shifting dune of Rubjerg Knude is the highlight of the day - sturdy shoes help in the sand.
The famous lighthouse standing on a huge shifting dune, repeatedly swallowed by the sand. Climbing the dune is a little adventure for children, and at the top you're rewarded with a wide view over the coast. The tower was spectacularly relocated in 2019 to save it from tumbling into the sea.
A family campsite near the charming artists' village of Lønstrup, close to the steep cliff coastline. The small village, with its colourful houses and workshops, is a lovely place for a stroll. Short walk to the beach.

Artists' village and beach
A beach day with no change of location, at an easy pace.
A picturesque fishing and artists' village on the northwest coast. Browse the small galleries and workshops while the children play on the nearby beach. The steep cliffs behind drop dramatically into the sea.
A wide sandy beach beneath the cliffs near Lønstrup, easy to reach and with plenty of space. A great spot for building sandcastles and watching the waves roll in.
Northern Europe's largest shifting dune
Drive and shifting dune in the morning, arrival in Skagen in the afternoon.
The largest shifting dune in Northern Europe, moving several metres northeast every year. Climbing up through the sand feels like a mini desert expedition and is great fun for children. At the top, a wide view opens up over the landscape.

Denmark's northern tip
Grenen in the morning, Skagen in the afternoon - both without a long drive.
For the children, the Sandormen is a highlight when little legs get tired.
The northernmost point of Denmark, where the Skagerrak and Kattegat meet and waves collide from two directions. You can walk right to the tip and stand with one foot in each sea. The Sandormen, a trailer pulled by a tractor, comfortably carries tired children there and back.
The famous artists' town with yellow-painted houses, a lively harbour and the special Skagen light that once drew so many painters. There's fresh fish at the harbour and a relaxed atmosphere for strolling. Park the motorhome at one of the car parks on the edge of town and walk in.
Farewell by the sea
The trip ends openly in northern Jutland - from Skagen you can head home at your own pace or extend your stay for a few more days.
From Skagen to Hamburg it's around five hours' drive, which is best split into two legs for the journey home.
The sheltered Sønderstrand beach in Skagen has shallow, calmer water - perfect for one last relaxed swimming day with the children. Fine sand and dunes invite you to linger before the journey home begins.
The grey lighthouse in Skagen, which today houses a small bird centre. From here you can watch the bird migration over the headland - a peaceful finale before heading south.
